Since 2000, the Italian system for the protection of victims of trafficking and sever exploitation is coordinated and co-financed by the Department for Equal Opportunities. It provides a structure for the assistance of trafficking victims consisting of three fundamental action pillars implemented by the Unique program of emergence, assistance and social integration (Legislative Decree 24/2014):

The National anti-trafficking toll-free number 800 290290 has been set up by the Department for Equal Opportunities. The toll-free number is anonymous and available 24 hours a day:
It offers victims, or those who support them with all the information they need, to get out of an exploitative situation. In order to convey information about the network security services that are active in the territory, it is able to create a link between the victims or potential victims and operator able to take care of the case, available 24 hours a day and territorially close.
It manages MIR procedures (networking, transfers of beneficiaries).
Who can implement the programs Accredited institutions for the implementation of social assistance and integration programs are enrolled in the second section (ex third) of the Register of Institutions and Associations that carry out activities in favor of immigrants, set up at the Ministry of Labour and Social Policies, so as established by Presidential Decree 394/199 (articles 52,53,54).
