Four days of study and comparison, through reports, debates open to the public and cultural events to frame the status of the Romanian migrant community and identify the ways out of the "system" of exploitation of workers, also looking at the legislative process.
Representatives of the Department for Equal Opportunities, Romanian diplomats, academics, judicial authorities, trade unions, private social workers and municipalities affected by the phenomenon participated.
"Romania roundtrip" is also the title of the exposition curated by Francesca Commissari, that was exhibited from the 2nd to the 20th of December. The pictures snapped by the Modenese photojournalist, through a multimedia narrative, guide the visitor on a journey, among the stories of the families who leave Romania to work in the countryside of Ragusa, dreaming on a better future.
During the meeting, on December 4th at the Sala Falcone Borsellino in Ragusa Ibla, the theatrical show "Sera biserica" by Giacomo Guarnieri, produced by Santa Briganti, was staged. This opera has bravely raised the curtain on the harassment and blackmail to which Romanian women are often subjected in greenhouses and on the blanket of silence and silence that still keeps this reality hidden.
